Deffeyes, author of 2001’s Hubbert’s Peak: The Impending World Oil Shortage and 2005’s Beyond Oil: The View from Hubbert’s Peak, predicted that the peak of global oil production would occur this past Thanksgiving.Deffeyes isn’t alone. ChevronTexaco’s willyoujoinus.com campaign, featuring a series of full-page newspaper ads that urge Americans to conserve energy, flatly declares, “The era of easy oil is over.”Such forecasts have been bolstered by a steep rise in oil prices over the last three years, going from 8 a barrel in 2002 to 0 last fall. If the price of something goes up, after all, that means it’s becoming scarcer.The good news is that the peak oil doomsters are probably wrong that world oil production is about to decline forever. And in 1943 the Standard Oil geologist Wallace Pratt calculated that the world would ultimately produce 600 billion barrels of oil. (In fact, more than 1 trillion barrels of oil had been pumped by 2006.)During the 1970s, the Club of Rome report The Limits to Growth projected that, assuming consumption remained flat, all known oil reserves would be entirely consumed in just 31 years. These dour predictions gained credibility when the Arab oil crisis of 1973 quadrupled prices from to 2 per barrel (from 6 to 8 in 2006 dollars) and when the Iranian oil crisis more than doubled oil prices from 4 per barrel in 1978 to 5 per barrel by 1981 (from 5 to 8 in 2006 dollars).In response, the federal government imposed price controls on oil and gas in the 1970s and established fuel economy standards to encourage the sale of more efficient automobiles. In 1969 Hubbert predicted that world oil production would peak around 2000.Hubbert argued that oil production grows until half the recoverable resources in a field have been extracted, after which production falls off at the same rate at which it expanded. Hubbert calculated that peak oil production follows peak oil discovery with a time lag. The time lag between peak global discoveries and peak production was estimated to be around 32 years, but peak oilers claim that the two oil crises of the 1970s reduced consumption and thereby delayed the peak until now. He points out that in a 1989 article for the journal Noroil, Campbell claimed the peak of world oil production had already passed and incorrectly predicted that oil would soon cost 0 to 0 a barrel. any day now.The world consumes about 87 million barrels of oil per day, or nearly 30 billion barrels of oil per year. The USGS calculates that humanity has already consumed about 1 trillion barrels of oil equivalent, which means 82 percent of the world’s endowment of oil and gas resources remains to be used.In its 2005 Energy Outlook, ExxonMobil estimates “global conventional oil resources total 3.2 trillion barrels…with non-conventional ‘frontier’ In 2005 it still had 23 billion barrels of oil reserves, even though American oil fields produced almost 40 billion barrels of oil between 1976 and 2005.Matthew Simmons claims to have found that the Saudis are greatly exaggerating the size of their reserves. Economides notes that the Saudis are investing 00 billion in new production projects, which undercuts the notion that they know they are running out of oil.At a November meeting of the Council on Foreign Relations, chief International Energy Agency economist Fatih Birol responded to the assertion that Saudi Arabia can’t raise its oil production by outlining a scenario in which he assumed that Saudi oil reserves were 35 percent lower than claimed. I did call my insurance agent about the accident and they notified me that I would need to call my insurance company directly and let them know about what had happened. I was also told by my insurance company that if I wanted to get any money from the other person’s insurance company that I would need to call them directly myself since I only had liability insurance. After I hung up with my insurance company I called the other person’s insurance company and let them know about what happened in the accident and they said that someone would get back to me. A few days later a man from the other person’s insurance company called me and asked me to tell him what had happened.

Array-ne Heavy rains will affect fishing.Trout fishing is holding up well in moving water at least until the next round of heavy rains that will likely muddy things up a lot. Springtime shore fishing at small ponds like the one at the old Kazan property off Rte 34 in Newtown, which is now part of the Paugusett State Forest, is a great way to experience some of the best fishing of the year. For smallies, the action�s been best on pearl white soft jerkbaits and on dull colored (smoke or olive green) plastic grubs fished on lead head jigs.

With this week’s theme being Yarn, I was a little worried since I don’t really knit (I sew a lot) and I can just crochet a strait stitch. So I started thinking of where yarn doesn’t come from (usually) and thought of lots of different things that I could crochet as a sort of sampler of things that (y)aren’t yarn.

Restoration work will include replacing most of the ceiling, possibly a new roof and serious wall repair (almost all due to serious water damage), assement of electrical damage, structural damage, etc. I cannot respond to all of them individually at this point (I’m exhausted, and I also have to get my own personal things packed up since I’m leaving for India to be with my father and family, and leaving the parish, next Sunday, May 21.) Any gesture of kindness is appreciated — however, until things are a little clearer, we don’t know of any concrete things right now that can be done.

Bam Bam! It sounded like people were sending and recieving fire - like it was a war outside. The loud voice came on to restrict movement - instructing everyone to remain indoors and that security had increased to U3 - This is not a drill! What a celebration!I also went to Muay Thai and Tony’s going away party. I even punched myself in the jaw accidentally when I was holding the pads and hadn’t braced myself enough to recieve my partner’s kick. How embarrassing.Tony’s party was nice. They made his party be a going away/Christmas party so everyone was asked to bring a small gift to exchange. Some people pulled Raman/Campbell’s soup off their shelves, while others purchased a small trinket at the Bazaar.

The biggest problem I have with my blogs is that I get to far ahead in my reading, and then when I go to write my comments, it’s not as fresh in my mind about what happened in a particular issue. This, really, is the basis behind my picking out what I really like . Right now, because of the whole thing with the Purifiers, the Predator-X threat out there, their recent trip and transition in Limbo, Josh’s powers and role on this team going up and down, the Cuckoo’s amping up David’s role a bit and the senior team evaluating all the students and putting them in actual X-Men uniforms, there’s a lot going on. But I don’t find it . And, hopefully, soon .
